Bike size calculator

Enter your height, and your inseam if you know it. You get one size to start with and the reason; the detail is underneath.

Height
Inseam (optional, makes it more exact) inseam Inseam = inside leg. From the floor to the crotch, in bare feet. It’s not the inseam on a jeans label. Stand against a wall, pull a book up between the legs like a saddle, mark its top edge and measure down to the floor. Step by step →

Your inside leg: floor to crotch, in bare feet. How to measure it with a book and a wall.

Type of bike
Start withL56–58 cm frame

Your inseam points to L: your legs are long for your height, and the frame has to fit your legs.

M also fits. Your height alone says M. It’s shorter and nimbler, with a lower top tube.

How do I measure my inseam?

    inseam
    1. Stand in socks with your back to a wall, feet about 15–20 cm (6–8 in) apart.
    2. Pull a hardback book up between your legs, spine up, as firmly as a saddle would sit.
    3. Mark the wall at the top of the book, step away, and measure from the mark to the floor.
    4. Measure twice. Most people are 1–2 cm out the first time. The full guide covers children too.

    Bike size questions

What if I’m between two sizes?

We start you on the size your inseam supports, because the frame has to fit your legs. The bigger frame is longer and steadier at speed; the smaller one is nimbler and lower to step over. Ride both if you can.

    Do I need my inseam?

Height gets you the size band. Inseam tells us whether your legs are long or short for your height, which settles a between-sizes answer and whether you’ll clear the top tube.

Why does Canyon call me a small when Specialized says 56?

Brands agree on heights to within about one size, but they name sizes differently. That’s why we show each brand’s own name for your size.

How we size: height bands from four brands’ and shops’ published charts; inseam × 0.665 for road frames and × 0.226 for mountain bikes. Every source and date is on how we size.
