Do brands run small or large?

Specialized

Road frames by number (44–61). Its heights match the generic chart; at 175 cm you sit on the line between a 54 and a 56.

Canyon

Names run one letter smaller: a rider who is an M elsewhere is often an S at Canyon. Go by Canyon’s own heights, not the letter.

Frame numbers run about one size higher than Specialized’s for the same rider: 56 at 171–178 cm.

Trek

Domane frame numbers match Specialized’s heights closely: 56 at 174–180 cm. The Marlin adds an ML between M and L for riders around 173–180 cm.

Cannondale and Orbea

Frame numbers run about one size lower: at 175 cm a Synapse is a 51 or 54 and an Orca a 53, where Trek and Specialized say 56.

Giant and Liv

Letters with an extra ML on the Defy. Neighbouring sizes overlap by 2–3 cm, so near an edge both fit. Liv’s Avail is sized for women and stops at L (182 cm).

I ride a 54 at Specialized. What am I at Canyon?

Usually an S. Specialized’s Tarmac 54 covers 170–175 cm and Canyon’s Endurace S covers 170–177 cm. Canyon’s letters run about one size smaller than other brands’ letters, so read its heights, not the letter.

Why do frame numbers differ between brands?

Brands measure the frame in different places. bike-discount.de’s numbers run about one size higher than Specialized’s for the same rider: a 56 at 171–178 cm.
